My High for the Day

My day didn't start off so hot. First, I started didn't get a bit of good sleep....I had a horrible dream, my heart was racing half the night, I felt very uncomfortable all night and I had a horrible sore throat! Then, I pack my lunch for work only to find out that I packed chicken for lunch and I totally forgot that I gave up meat for lent so I can't even eat my lunch now (I had to go out and buy something).

This probably isnt much of a "high" but it's the best I have...I was talking to my sister-in-law and she said that my youngest niece wanted ME to make cupcakes for her class!!! I was honored to be asked to make cupcakes for her class so now it's time to brush off all the "yuckiness" and put on my apron.... :-)

My Boys...

As much as I complain about them, I love my boys!!! First, the dog...Simba!!! He wakes up every Saturday morning and loves to watch Turbo Dog! It's his favorite show and he knows when it comes on. Siju and I watch the news every morning and so right after the news, Turbo Dog comes on and we just never change the channel because we're busy doing other stuff and the TV is just on. Simba starts off with first barking at the TV with excitement and then sniffing and looking around the TV area as if he's looking for the characters. He then sits down and watches the ENTIRE show. He gets up and walks around during commercial time but he ALWAYS comes back to watch the rest of his show. It is the most adorable thing ever to watch...I feel obligated to leave the TV on so that he can watch his show only because he truly enjoys the program. I cannot believe how attentive and amused he is with the show.
Second, the hubbie...Siju!!! I'm sure the picture will have to be removed after he sees the post but it's worth a try! My sister was kind enough to buy me a pregnancy pillow to help me sleep comfortably. I use it from time to time but apparently it looks like the hubbie uses it too, haha! I was taking a shower right before I jumped into bed. When I got out of the shower I find him curled up in MY pillow. Not to mention, the dog sleeps on the pillow too when he's allowed on the bed.
Boy, ohhh BOYSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

Boycott Fandango!

I decided to take my two older nieces to watch Diary of a Wimpy Kid this past weekend because they always asked for the book series every Christmas and the movie just came out last Friday. There was breakfast at my parents house and since Siju was helping my parents and brother do mulch work in my parent’s yard I decided to take the kids out and bring them back for lunch and by then the boys would be done and it will be time to go home. I had a free ticket (up to a $12 value) from Fandango so I thought I could use that. The tickets were $5/each and I was purchasing 3 tickets so at the end I was expecting to pay just $10….makes sense and very simple! I go to Fandango’s site and make my purchase only to find out at the CONFIRMATION page that I was paying $1.25 convenience fee for each ticket????? What the hell is a convenience fee???? It’s not like I’m getting my vehicle registered or something….I’m buying freakin movie tickets! I just paid the equivalent of 3 child price regular tickets or almost the same price as it would have cost me to go to the movie theater and just buy 3 tickets for $15.

Ohhh wait there’s more….after I paid $13.75 for 3 tickets (and that’s with the $5 free ticket) they tell me that I have to get my tickets from the counter at the movie theater and show them my credit card. Call me stupid but what the hell was so convenient that I had to pay $1.25/ticket??? I accomplished nothing….I still have to stand in line and I still had to pull out my wallet from my purse. The guess the only thing that was convenient was that I didn’t have to speak to the cashier lady...you know because, “3 tickets for Diary of a Wimpy Kid” would have sucked every ounce of energy out of me (in my most sarcastic voice)!!!

I was outraged by this entire experience I didn’t know what to do so I did what I do best….I wrote them a complaint letter, haha! I told them that it was completely ridiculous that they were charging me $1.25/ticket to use the site. Second, I reminded them that we were in 2011, a technology era where everything is ONLINE and I could not believe that an ONLINE movie site was charging a convenience fee!!! The service they provide is selling tickets ONLINE! I was nice enough to give them a little word of advice and that if they really wanted to make money off their pathetic site then they should receive kickbacks from the movie theater for selling their tickets NOT from the customers that use it. That’s typically how a lot of these sites work but apparently Fandango didn’t get the memo!

To all readers, please use www.moviefone.com to look up movies, showtimes and to purchase movie tickets (or go to the theater’s site directly). Unless you want to get robbed, do not use Fandango……plus, who can remember the spelling of the darn word anyways…Fadango, Fandago, etc!

Overall, my day went pretty well….the kids enjoyed the movie and most of all I enjoyed their company! We went home to the rest of the family and dad bought us all lunch from one of our favorite Thai restaurants.

Coupon Junkie

I’ve always been in the lookout for a good bargain but lately I started valuing the use of coupons! I used to always get a few here and there but I always either forget to bring it with me when I go to the store or end up throwing them away in fear that it’s going to make me buy things that I really don’t need.

Well, since the baby shower is now done and I have to make the rest of my purchases for the baby I’ve noticed all the different places and ways that I could save same extra $$$. It’s to the point where it’s all I can think about…how can I save an extra dollar or different cost-saving strategies. I carry the coupons in my purse and constantly play with them as if they’re a deck of cards. The other day I searched long and hard for baby wipes….yes, baby wipes! I was surprised that Babies R Us sold cheaper baby wipes than Wal-Mart and Target (of course I used a coupon but it was still cheaper even if I didn’t use it). I’m constantly pulling out my calculator and calculating the price/sq ft or item. It’s crazy how companies make such big advertisements and promotions on things that really don’t save you a penny but make you spend more (I don’t know why I’m surprised but I just keep thinking about all those out there that go for these so called “Sales” thinking they’re saving and really not….very misleading). I feel like a sucker when I get pulled into their schemes which then really annoys me because I work hard for my money and I hate seeing it get wasted because I was stupid or lazy to do my due diligence.

Tonight I’m going to Babies R Us to buy some furniture pieces with my 20% off coupon. I am SOOOO excited and I really hope I have no problems using the coupon. I read every fine print on the bottom of the coupon, called the store to make sure I understood some of the questionable disclosures and even read the Terms and Conditions for my membership so I am prepared to fight in case they tell me that I can’t use the coupon.

Mornings with Simba

This is probably not amusing to most but it's my chance to (1) test out the blog and (2) talk about my little man! :-)

Every morning and I mean EVERY morning; we have to go through a process with Simba. Siju starts with waking him up by literally picking him up from bed, holding him, putting him down and helping him stretch out his legs (yes, seriously….I’m not the only coo coo one in the house) and we have to annoy him with morning kisses. All this just to wake him up but it doesn't work because as soon as we put him down he runs straight back into his bed. Once I even took his bed away so that he would have nowhere to run and sleep and next thing you know I find him sleeping in our bed (he KNOWS he's not allowed on the bed unless we pick him up and put him there). We do all this so that he’s up and awake so when we send him out he will take care of business or else he just goes outside and waits by the door to come back inside because he’s too sleepy.

Finally, when Siju leaves, Simba wakes up and I have to take him out so I open the door to let him out and make my lunch in the process. He scratches on the door so that I can let him back in and again, he goes right back to sleep either on his bed or couch. For the past few months he knows when I’m ready to leave because I grab my purse and call him so he runs away and goes straight under my bed and hides (once he was hiding under a table in the baby’s room). He gets a treat if he goes into the kitchen (which is where he stays when we're at work) but lately not even a treat is enough for him to go into the kitchen. I hold out the treat so he can see it and I even act as if I've left the house all to get him out from under the bed BUT he still won't come out and just peaks from the corner of the bed post and when he sees me he runs right back under the bed. By the time I realize I'm late for work I just crawl under the bed and drag him from under the bed and put him in the kitchen with his toys and give him a treat and leave. Crawling under the bed is getting a little harder now that I'm in my 8th month of pregnancy but I have no choice.

I wonder how things are going to be with the new baby and getting Simba up in the morning. Nonetheless, it's crazy how childlike and smart dogs are. As difficult as it is for me to wake him up in the morning I enjoy every minute with him to the point where I blog about him.
